On Land Day, March 30, 2018 Palestinians in Gaza gathered for the beginning of six weeks of peaceful protest near the border with Israel. Israel’s response to this demonstration was to position snipers at the line between Gaza and Israel, who fired live ammunition and rubber bullets, and to send drones that dropped tear gas on the demonstrators. Seventeen Palestinians were killed that day and an 18th has since died from their wounds. Close to 1000 people were wounded that day and hospitals in Gaza struggle to deal with the overwhelming amount of casualties at a time when they are already low on supplies and medicines due to the ongoing siege of Gaza. This means many more will die.
