AMED Studies at SFSU is under attack from the ultra-right-wing Zionists for hosting a conversation with Palestinian freedom fighter, Leila Khaled.

Leila Khaled is a powerful, inspiring figure. She’s more than just a freedom fighter. Leila is a mother, a wife, and a national icon. Leila Khaled proved that a woman and a mother have a place in resisting Israeli occupation and colonialism. What Leila proves to us most is that everyone has a place in the Liberation of Palestine.

"Leila will engage in a conversation with public intellectuals, scholars and other long time internationalist leaders from Palestine, South Africa, the US Black liberation struggle, and anti-Zionist Jewish sisters and brothers. This historic conversation will engage in critical narratives of resistance, resilience, and gender and sexual justice that is timely and urgent in today’s world of white supremacy, racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. Not unlike Nelson Mandela, Oscar Lopez Rivera, Lolita Libron, Raphael Cancel Miranda, Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier, David Gilbert, and Susan Rosenberg, to name a few, Khaled has been maligned and labeled as a terrorist to discredit the struggle for justice for all to which she belongs. Khaled was also subjected to Orientalist, Islamophobic and colonialist depictions that fail to imagine that Arab, Muslim and Palestinian women can and do speak for themselves, think critically and lead movements. By contrast, generations of Palestinian (and non-Palestinian) intellectuals, militants, and peace and justice activists see Khaled as a feminist icon and a role model to be emulated." - Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi.
