May 15th marks the 73rd year of the NAKBA (catastrophe) in Palestine. In 1948, Israel exiled more than 750,000 Palestinians and demolished 500 villages in the massacre and ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinian population. Today, we see the same ruthless tactics used in the NAKBA in Sheikh Jarrah.
The cowardly attempt of illegal terrorist settlers with the support of the IDF to target Palestinian homes have sparked outrage across the globe. The home disposition in Sheikh Jarrah must be stopped and the Netanyahu government must be held accountable for its blatant human rights violations. We ask that President Biden and the congress withhold US tax dollar military aid to Israel that is being used to support the violent and inhumane ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. We ask President Biden and the congress to recognize Palestinian rights as equal and equitable as those of Israelis, and demand they act now. We ask that our representative, congressional delegate support Betty McCollum’s bill. In a time where Americans have come to terms with the need to address human rights violations of the black, indigenous, and immigrant communities we must also be consistent with human rights for all communities including Palestinians. The atrocious attacks on innocent worshipers in one of the most sacred mosques in the holy month of Ramadan to the Muslim world is a gross violation of human rights and freedom of religion.
