Ethnic cleansing is happening in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah.
Right-wing Israeli settler groups, backed by the power of the Israeli state, it’s courts, laws and security services, are forcibly evicting four Palestinian families from their homes.
This is apartheid.
As the Palestinian community protests against these forced evictions and the ongoing brutality faced by the community in neighbourhoods like Sheikh Jarrah, Israeli security forces have responded in a fashion that has become all too familiar – with brutal violence and an assault on worshippers at the Al Aqsa Mosque.
Hundreds of worshippers have been injured, including as many as 37 children.
Our government must take action now – Israel must not be able, continually, to break international law, show flagrant disregard for human rights, and participate in ethnic cleansing, with total impunity.
We demand that the Israeli state be held accountable for its actions.
We demand that these evictions be stopped, and call for an end to the state sponsored violence against the Palestinian community who are protesting to defend their rights. We demand the implementation of sanctions and the banning on imports of goods from illegal Israeli settlements.
Glasgow has a proud history of showing solidarity with those communities across the world who face violence, dispossession, and oppression. Our City must stand shoulder to shoulder with the Palestinian people.
