Join Free Palestine Melbourne as we commemorate and resist 73 years of Israeli colonisation, marked by Israel’s declaration of Independence on the 14th of May, 1948 and the events of Nakba, or Catastrophe where over 700,000 of our people were uprooted from their homes and over 500 villages were eradicated in a Zionist campaign of ethnic cleansing that would replace them with Israeli towns and cities.

We commemorate the Deir Yasin massacre that occurred on April 9th, 1948 which as been memorialised in Palestinian consciousness as a symbol of Israeli barbarity. These massacres were committed to drive Palestinians out of our homes in mass exile and dispossession.

We remember Britain’s criminal role in handing Palestine, its colony, to Israelis with the help of the United Nations and western nations including Australia.

We insist that Australians pay attention to and understand that Australian politicians celebrate Israeli Independence Day every year in a disgraceful allegiance with settler colonisation.

We are coming together to demand an end to Israeli colonisation of Palestine to right the wrongs of a blood-stained history.

As diaspora Palestinians we reiterate that there is no compromise on our right of return.

We demand an immediate halt to Israeli expansion through the building of settlements, Palestinian land theft and cruel home demolitions.

To see an end to Israeli colonisation, we demand an immediate end to the siege on Gaza and refuse the current status quo even as Israel makes its regime of torture and punishment permanent.

We invite you to stand with us on this sombre day and commit with us to the struggle for Palestinian liberation.
