NOV 28: “Commemorating the Detroit Arab Workers Strike for Palestine” virtual panel hosted by our Detroit chapter!
On November 28th in 1973, 2,500 Arab auto workers SHUT DOWN production at Chrysler’s Dodge Main assembly plant near Detroit, in a historic wildcat strike called for by the Arab Workers Caucus. The strike resulted in the first ever “BDS” victory in U.S. history — successfully demanding UAW divest from their State of Israel bonds (over $300k purchased with union dues money).
You don’t want to miss this event featuring a panel of 3 distinguished speakers who will discuss what took place during the strike, the political context and organizing that made it possible, as well as important lessons for our movements today.
GEORGE KHOURY – Nakba survivor, long-time Detroit based Palestinian leftist, labor and community organizer, and leading member of US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN)
JEROME SCOTT – Founding member of League of Revolutionary Black Workers member, member of LRNA, board member of General Baker Institute
MIKE SIVIWE ELLIOT – former Detroit auto worker, retired leader of UAW Local 551, member of Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR)
Moderated by Julia Kassem and Danya Zituni of USPCN-Detroit
