Although virtual, GABRIELA BC members work and live on the unceded and stolen territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
COVID-19 continues to present challenges for women, especially working women, around the world. As countries quickly responded to the pandemic with enforced quarantine and social distancing measures, women’s conditions continued to worsen due to increased unemployment, exploitation and precarity in the workplace, and more. Women are finding less opportunities to speak out about challenges they’re experiencing, and are isolated from resources and collective support from their communities.

For organizations and movements around the world, it is now more important than ever to organize, mobilize, and empower working women. The unity of working women is necessary for the survival of communities against COVID, as well as the daily attacks by capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism. Join us on March 7 to hear various people’s organizations speak on working women’s issues in an online event hosted by GABRIELA BC!

This is an inclusive event in celebration of the struggle led by all workers who identify as women.

——

GABRIELA BC is an anti-imperialist Filipino women’s organization committed to continuing the ongoing struggle for justice and liberation of all women and for national democracy in the Philippines. We extend our support and solidarity to other organizations and communities fighting against oppression and exploitation.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous struggles and movements on so-called British Columbia and everywhere on Turtle Island. We gratefully acknowledge that our work takes place on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. As people displaced from our own homelands through forced economic migration, we stand with all peoples struggling against dispossession and displacement.

Our work as GABRIELA BC is committed to liberation and justice for all Filipinos who identify as women or non-binary. We will not tolerate hateful attitudes and ideas such as but not limited to transmisogyny, transphobia, racism, and ableism.

Please do not hesitate to message us on Facebook or email us at info.gabrielabc@gmail.com with your questions.
