IWA Europe continues its campaign Women on the Frontlines of Resistance with its third webinar, in cooperation with Ceni, highlighting the situation of Kurdish political prisoners under the fascist regime of Erdogan. Under the Erdogan regime, the prison system and the use of incarceration have been used consistently as an institutional weapon against political opponents of the regime, particularly targeting Kurdish politicians.
On January 28, activists from the Kurdish Women’s Movement will be talking on the cases of Leyla Güven, Rojbin Çetin, and Rojda Nazlier.
Leyla Güven, politician of the pro-Kurdish HDP (People’s Democratic Party) and former member of parliament was sentenced to to 22 years and 3 months imprisonment in December 2020.
Rojbin Çetin is a member of Kurdish Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad, TJA) and a member of the local political committee of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP). When Rojbin was first arrested on June 26, she was tortured by policemen at her home in Diyarbakir (Âmed).
Rojda Nazlıer, deposed co-mayor of the Kocaköy (Karaz) district in the north-east of Diyarbakır (Âmed), has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a Turkish District Court in Diyarbakır for “membership in a terrorist organization”.
Join our webinar to learn more about these women and how you can contribute to their struggle for freedom.
