On 15 May 2018, we mark the great catastrophe of the Palestinian people, the 70th anniversary of the Nakba. 70 years ago, the Zionist ethnic cleansing of Palestine escalated in the immediate aftermath of the declaration of the establishment of the Israeli state. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced by Zionist forces, over 20 massacres took place, 400 Palestinian villages were erased from the map.

This year, Palestinians organized popular mass marches in Gaza to demand the right of return, from Land Day through Nakba Day. These Palestinian marches have been met with live fire by occupation forces, killing dozens of Palestinians since 30 March.

As Palestinians commemorate occupation, dispossession and forced removal for 70 uninterrupted years, this year, US President Trump is offering a great gift to the occupying regime by moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem on 14 May.

BDS Turkey stands in support of the struggle for return and liberation of the Palestinian people, in support of the Great Return March and in protest of Trump’s Jerusalem declaration. On al-Nakba Day, we urge all supporters of Palestine and Palestinians living in Turkey to join our call for boycott in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana.

Nakba

On 15 May, 1948, the Zionist movement founded the state of Israel, proclaiming 15 May as an Independence Day. For Palestinians, it is a day of catastrophe, al-Nakba.

A Palestinian state still does not exist and 70 years later, millions of Palestinians still live in refugee camps in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. They are stateless and are denied their right to return.

The transfer of the United States Embassy to Jerusalem (al-Quds, historic capital of Palestine) is an insult to and provocation against the Palestinian people.
