شبكة صامدون في كندا تبدأ دورة الشهيد وليد دَقّة

Vancouver, Canada
July 14, 2024

In cooperation with the “Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement” and the presence of youth groups from the Palestinian and Arab community in Vancouver, and in the space of the 52nd anniversary of the martyrdom of the Palestinian revolutionary writer Ghassan Kanafani, the “Samidoun Network for the Defense of Palestinian Prisoners” in Canada launched the first activities of the “Martyr Leader Walid Daqqa Course” (in Arabic), in which a number of students and activists in the student movement participated, while “Samidoun” is preparing to launch a new cultural course in the English language.

The announcement of the intellectual and political session comes at a time when the Zionist prison authorities continue to target the prisoner movement, which is subjected to a policy of slow killing and execution, as 48 Palestinian prisoners have been martyred since October 7, 2023. Prisoners, both male and female, suffer from brutal torture, amputation of limbs, isolation, starvation, denial of visitation, and deprivation of their most basic legal and human rights.

The course includes studying the history of the Zionist movement and Canadian-Israeli relations, introducing the history of the Palestinian national movement from 1917 to 2024, the civil and political rights of immigrants and refugees, and how to confront the system of oppression and confiscation of freedoms, in addition to strengthening the struggle relations with the indigenous peoples and tribes of the continent, understanding the nature of the role of labor unions and student movements, and building alliances against racism and Zionism.

The session will discuss ways to develop popular solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle, and the need to expand the scope of public, political and cultural activities in Canada against Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip and all of occupied Palestine.
