Trump Means War

On November 11, 2018, France will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, the end of World War I, an event at which Trump will be Macron’s honored guest. Extending such an invitation to the man who is waging war against us all is an insult that we refuse to accept.

Trump is the escalation of the “war on terror”, which has already resulted in the death of millions. The refugees and migrants fleeing the resulting conflagrations have been denied their human rights. In Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, the greater Middle East, and Africa, Trump and Macron beat the drums of war together. In the United States, children are imprisoned and separated from their families. Their only crime: being migrants. In France, Macron has refused to welcome refugees from the Aquarius, and the European Union has required border countries to set up centers for “sorting” migrants.

Macron’s invitation bolsters the imperialistic and military ties among the US, France, and the whole of the EU. Trump has demanded that UE members and NATO massively increase military spending. Macron has announced an increase of 30% for France, while simultaneously slashing funds for social programs. This means less money for health care, education, families, and accessible housing: a blatant disregard for people’s basic needs!

Trump is the living and breathing incarnation of sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia. He is waging war on us all. His and his administration’s crimes against women are innumerable. He actively promotes discrimination and violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. He openly fosters hatred and violence towards people of color, Muslims, and people with disabilities. We stand together to reject his divisiveness!

Trump is waging war on the Earth itself. Since 2017, he has ended the moratorium on coal mining on US federal land and Native American lands. He has reopened the coasts to oil and gas exploration and drilling. And these are just a paltry few of his crimes against the planet. Thanks to Macron and the EU, glyphosate has not been banned, there is oil exploration off French Guiana’s coast, and aging nuclear power plants will be renewed instead of scrapped.

To commemorate the end of the First World War, Macron will honor the war machine that sent millions to the slaughter. Macron has invited Trump to participate in a solemn moment intended to remember the sacrifices of these soldiers. The two will then participate in the Paris “Peace” Forum. For Trump and Macron, peace actually means war.

We invite all people, political organizations, workers’ unions, and non-profit groups to join us to protest this celebration of war on November 11, 2018.

Brussels, Belgium
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/2322254281135799/

For four years, Saudi Arabia and its allies have been bombarding one of the poorest countries in the world, making no distinction between civilian and military targets, resulting in the massacre of thousands of Yemenis, many of them children. Today the situation of Yemenis is one of the most serious, as famine rages amid silence and complicity of the largest international powers, giving Saudi Arabia a sense of impunity. Join us to denounce this injustice and make your voice heard at this rally outside the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Brussels to support the Yemeni people.

* Où ? Devant l’ambassade d’Arabie Saoudite (Avenue Roosevelt, 45, 1050 BXL) tout près de l’ULB.
* Quand ? Le samedi 10 novembre à 14h

9 November, NYC: Doing science under military occupation – the case of Palestine

Friday, 9 November
5:30 pm
Columbia University
Northwest Corner Building 501
New York, NY
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/348158215922402/

Higher education and research in Palestine face many challenges from the ongoing occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. In fact Palestinian scientists have to work under restrictions on mobility of students and academics, international isolation, raids, and forced closures of Palestinian universities.

Despite these challenges, interest in science education and research in Palestine continues to grow rapidly. Over 25% of the population of 18-24 year olds enrolled in university and half the students are women, a ratio among one of the highest in the world. Several Palestinian universities rank highly among the universities in the region, including An-Najah University, Al-Quds University, Birzeit University, and the Arab American University Jenin, in the West Bank, and in Gaza, Al-Azhar University, Al-Aqsa University, and the Islamic University of Gaza.

Scientists for Palestine, along other organizations endorsing the event, will host a roundtable discussion to understand the circumstances faced by Palestinian academics, and scientists in particular, and what we can do to help. Our main guest is Suleiman Baraka, renowned Palestinian astrophysicist, full professor at al-Aqsa University in Gaza City and currently Fulbright scholar at Virginia Tech. We will also attempt to established a remote connection with Palestine to hear a report by the Right to Education Campaign – Palestine حملة الحق في التعليم on the situation of the West Bank.

This is a public event which will open the weekend long Second International Meeting for Science in Palestine. The weekend activities are for registered participants only, if you would like to participate please fill out the application form goo.gl/u8tkGU. The application deadline is October 30th 2018.

9 November, Bethlehem: Support Palestinian women prisoners in Israeli jails

Friday, 9 November
4:00 pm
Bab al-Zaqqab
Bethlehem
Occupied Palestine
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/2220908641567764/

Four concrete walls with grey cement and over 61 days for our mothers, sisters and daughters behind those walls, who have shown that they are stronger than bullets with their steadfastness!

61 days and more pass by silently, while our prisoners endure years of torment even as they resist the jailer.

Today, silence is the greatest danger. The Samidoun Network in occupied Palestine calls on all to participate on Friday, 9 November at 4:00 pm at the junction of Bab al-Zaqqab in Bethlehem in a demonstration to support women prisoners in Israeli jails who have been engaged in a battle for their rights for 60 days, remaining in their cells despite their difficult situation…

9 November, Berlin: Worldwide Day of Action for a World Without Walls

Friday, 9 November
2:30 pm
Potsdamer Platz
Berlin, Germany

Exhibition of walls – 9 November 2018

In solidarity with people who are directly affected by walls and as part of movements that pose justice, freedom and equality as their tools to resolve the problems of this planet, BDS Berlin joined the call for November 9 as a Global Day of Action for a #Worldwithoutwalls.

On numerous exhibition boards we point out that walls – visible ones, fallen walls, walls in our minds, political walls – consist not only of concrete, barbed wire, stones – they also manifest themselves in negotiations and conference results like that of Evian 1938, in institutions like FRONTEX, in “reception camps” in Africa, in regulations like Dublin III – walls built against refugees, people in need, the “others” in each case. #WorldwithoutWalls

http://bdsberlin.org/2018/10/31/9-november-2018-weltweiter-aktionstag-fuer-eine-welt-ohne-mauern/

Mauern-Ausstellung– 9. November 2018

An Evening with Mohammad Sabaaneh, Palestinian Cartoonist and Graphic Artist. He is flying in from Palestine in Ramallah, Palestine, where he is the lead political cartoonist for the daily paper, Al-Hayat al-Jadida. The event at RB is part of a special 2 week US tour.

In 2013, Sabaaneh was detained by the Israelis for five months, spending much of it in solitary confinement. The situation inspired the creation of his first book of cartoons, “White And Black: Political Cartoons from Palestine,” published by Just World Books in 2017. The book won rave reviews from leading political cartoonists around the world including KAL of The Economist, Matt Wuerker of Politico, and Joe Sacco. Noted NYC artist Seth Tobocman has written the Foreward.

Mohammad is the Middle East representative of the Cartoonists Rights Network International. He has had solo and group exhibitions of his work in countries around the world. Last fall, he won the Medaille d’Or at the Marseille Cartooning Festival. He has been hailed by the UN’s Committee on Palestinian Rights as one of Palestine’s two best-ever cartoonists– along with the late Naji al-Ali, and was featured in the exhibition and gala they staged at UN headquarters in New York.

Proceeds from the event and donations will help defray costs of Mohammad Sabaaneh’s tour expenses.
