5 June, Milwaukee: Protest Israeli Ambassador’s Visit!

Tuesday, 5 June
11:15 am
Milwaukee County War Memorial Center
Milwaukee, WI
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/198944740727192/

Since March 30th of this year, Israeli snipers, as well as other soldiers, have killed over 120 unarmed Palestinian in Gaza and wounded more than 12,000. On May 14 alone, 19 Palestinian medics were shot. Now one of Netanyahu’s closest allies, Ron Dermer, is coming to Milwaukee! Dermer is also close to Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who withheld his role in funding illegal settlements on the West Bank, while Trump has put him in charge of bringing “peace” to the Middle East. Our taxes are paying for these murders. We cannot be silent.

June 5th marks also the 51st anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. One of the only remaining occupations in our times. Palestinians in the occupied territories live under Apartheid rules that control their movement, their ability to work and farm their land and, in general, their ability to live in peace. Settler colonialists, protected by the Israeli army harass them, destroy their crops and trees, stop them from getting to their fields, and physically assault them. We are not going to let Dermer play the victim and cast blame on the occupied Palestinian people.

As a result of the recent massacres in Gaza, Israel has been put under pressure by the international community and people of conscience. In response, Bibi and his government embark on a campaign to distract and mislead. However, people of conscious are going to continue to stand up for Palestinian rights and will continue their cultural and economic boycott and divestment to pressure Israel in ending its apartheid rules.

On June 5th, as Ron Dermer is white washing genocide, join Jews, Arabs and people of conscience to affirm the right of return for those Palestinians and their descendants who were driven out of their home 70 years ago and since.

In commemoration of the Nakba, we send our kites as flags in the skies of Vienna

As with other countries in the Eastern Mediterranean, kite-flying is a popular activity in Palestine. Displaced, imprisoned, their dreams suppressed, the Palestinian youth in the refugee camps developed a passion for kite-making to express their dreams and creativity. This is an early bloom of rebellion against an unjust reality that eventually became a form of political protest. In the spring and the fall, the refugee camps are characterized by the intensity and variety of the colors of the kites.

In besieged Gaza, kite-flying is a protest method of choice against the siege and repeated Israeli aggression Already in June 2009, Gaza recorded a world record of 3000 kites in a single action. Today, Palestinians in Gaza protest daily at the colonial fence while Israeli soldiers, themselves at a safe distance, open fire with live ammunition on the crowds. Over 112 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured. Against this background, the kite evolved from a simple method of protest to a method of fighting. Palestinian youths have loaded kites with fire and land them beyond the fence. The creativity of a besieged people with hardly anything to lose knows no limit.

While official Austria celebrates 70 years of the state of Israel, we commemorate 70 years of the Nakba with the Palestinian people. We remember 70 years of expulsion, massacres, state terror, war crimes, sieges, imprisonment, torture, repression, racism, apartheid and more, reflected in the concept of settler colonialism.

On the occasion of 70 years of Nakba, we stand with the Palestinians in the occupied homeland and in the diaspora. On Friday, 1 June, the OKAZ will hold a kite-making workshop for children and adults. At 3 pm on Saturday, 2 June, the kites will fly on the Danube Island in front of the UN Building. Freedom for Palestine!

Lecture by Greg Thomas (Tufts University/USA)

FANON TO PALESTINE: COLONIAL RACISM, TORTURE-VIOLENCE, AND COLONIAL ELITES

The name of FANON is far from foreign in Palestine and to the most urgent Palestinian political discourses of the past and the present. He is often now called upon in some way by young activists (in and outside of refugee camps), conventional scholars (in and outside of the academy), and old revolutionaries (in and outside of Zionist prisons), for example, perhaps everyone but the Palestinian Authority itself and perhaps even some of those putative spokesmen. After Algeria and its African Revolution along with the Black Power Movement or the Black Panther Party of Afro-North America, Palestine could be one of the ripest sites of FANONISM on the planet in recent decades. How and why does FANON come to Palestine today? What might be the historical appeal of FANONISM in Global Palestine? How can the texts of THE COMPLETE FANON offer some response to such questions – from his BLACK SKIN, WHITE MASKS to THE WRETCHED OF THE EARTH and the original FLN articles of his TOWARD THE AFRICAN REVOLUTIONS, beyond the superifical academicization of FANON for “post-colonialist” mythologies? Informed by ongoing research, this lecture will begin to launch its inquiry with a focus on FANONIAN discourse on colonial racism, torture and imprisonment as well as neo-colonial elites.

Wednesday, May 30th 2018, 6 – 9 p.m., Dar al Janub, Kleistgasse 8/3, 1030 Vienna

Note: The day before (May 29, 2018) there is a lecture by Greg Thomas on THE COMPLETE FANON: AFRICAN REVOLUTION, BLACK POWER MOVEMENT, AND NEO-COLONIAL IMPERIALISM (BEYOND THE ACADEMIC MYTHS OF POST-COLONIALITY) at the University of Vienna, Institute for African Studies, University of Vienna, Spitalgasse 2, Hof 5, 1090 Vienna, Seminarraum 1 (1st floor) at 5 pm. This is a cooperation event of the Institute for African Studies, the research platform “Mobile Cultures and Societies” and the Union for Antiracism and Peace Policy – Dar al Janub.

Hinweis: Einen Tag vorher (29. Mai 2018) findet an der Universität Wien am Institut für Afrikawissenschaften, Universität Wien, Spitalgasse 2, Hof 5, 1090 Wien, Seminarraum 1 (1. Stock) um 17 Uhr die Vorlesung von Greg Thomas, THE COMPLETE FANON: AFRICAN REVOLUTION, BLACK POWER MOVEMENT, AND NEO-COLONIAL IMPERIALISM (BEYOND THE ACADEMIC MYTHS OF POST-COLONIALITY) statt. Eine Kooperationsveranstaltung des Institut für Afrikawissenschaften, der Forschungsplattform „Mobile Kulturen und Gesellschaften“und dem Verein für antirassistische und friedenspolitische Initiative – Dar al Janub

French prisoners in Fleury-Mérogis protest in solidarity with Gaza

Photos: Street Vox/Detainees’ Collective of Fleury-Merogis

The following is translated from the original French statement by the Detainees Collective of Fleury-Mérogis (Collectif de détenus de Fleury-Mérogis). Much like imprisonment in the United States and elsewhere, imprisonment in France is deeply racialized and also highly political. In addition to a number of Basque political prisoners, France has jailed Arab Communist struggler for Palestine, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, for over 33 years.  In this very prison, Canadian professor Hassan Diab was jailed for years before finally winning his release after the bogus case against him was exposed. Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network expresses our appreciation and solidarity for these prisoners and their conscious political work behind iron bars to confront French imperialism and stand with the Palestinian people.:

To mark their solidarity with the Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip, on Sunday, 20 May 2018, the detainees in Building D1 of the Fleury-Mérogis prison blocked the exercise yard. They issued the following statement:

“We, the detainees of Building D1 of the Fleury-Mérogis prison, decided to block the exercise yard in support of the Palestinian people who have demonstrated on multiple occasions to try to break the blockade imposed by Israel, against the installation of the American embassy in Jerusalem on the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, and to assert the Palestinian right to return.

Even if we are deprived of liberty, we wish to protest against the massacres in the Gaza Strip committed by the Israeli government and show our solidarity with the 61 Palestinians killed by the colonial military forces (including 8 children and 1 baby) and 2,400 injured.

Just like the Palestinians, who have made Palestine a symbol of dignity and longtime struggle, our demonstration is a peaceful protest without violence and hatred.

We will block the yard until the arrival of the Eris (security forces.)

Because Fleury is the biggest prison in Europe, we want to express our solidarity with Gaza, the biggest prison in the world!

We are all the children of Gaza!”
