17 April 2018: International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Political Prisoners!

Rally in front of Central Station in Brussels, from 4 pm to 7 pm

Since 1967, over 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned for resisting a military occupation and colonial settlement that has lasted for over half a century (!) Today, around 6,500 Palestinians, including more than 300 minors, are held in Israeli jails. Many are detained without trial, while others are the victims of arbitrary Israeli military courts. During their detention, most are subjected to all forms of ill-treatment including “muscular” interrogation. On average, each year, 700 children are imprisoned.

Occupation and colonialism are illegal under international law. Although, since 1967, they have been regularly condemned by the United Nations, neither this global institution or its constituent states have decided on sanctions to pressure Israel to respect international law.

It is up to us to show our solidarity with the Palestinian people!

Open Letter

To the President of the Council of the Sardinia Region Gianfranco Ganau
To the President of the Sardinian Regional Council Francesco Pigliaru
To the Rector of the University of Cagliari Maria Del Zompo
To the Mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda

The assembly of Sardinian citizens and students gathered on 4 April 2018 at the headquarters of the Associazione Amicizia Sardegna Palestina, calls upon you in your official capacity, following the facts of the situation in Gaza, to condemn the massacres of unarmed Palestinian civilians and call for an end to all acts of aggression in violation of international law and human rights. The Palestinian people have the right to protest against Israel for its theft of the land. We emphasize, once again, that the Palestinian people have the right to their own state recognized by all international institutions. We make our own protest in the name of democracy and solidarity against the violent actions of Israel and we ask that Sardinian institutions are not complicit in what has happened.

All of the associations present at the meeting sign this appeal.

On March 30th 2018, around 30,000 Palestinians marched in the March of Return, which aimed to set up a few camps several hundred meters from the militarised fence surrounding the Gaza Strip. Their goal was to protest their incarceration in the world’s largest open-air prison as well as the massive confiscation of their ancestral land. Civil society groups organized this non-violent protest that sparked open fire from Israeli soldiers and snipers, killing now 21 unarmed protestors in one week and injuring countless others. This is now being called Gaza’s Passover Massacre.

It marked the beginning of a six-week sit-in, starting on Land Day, an event that commemorates six Palestinian citizens of Israel who were shot dead by Israeli forces after protesting the government’s confiscation of large swaths of Palestinian land on March 30, 1976. The sit in was set to end of May 15th, Nakba Day, which this year marks 70 years since the ethnic cleansing of 750,000 Palestinians by Zionist militias from their villages and towns.

Join JFP Calgary as we join groups and actions around the world as we stand up for the rights of Palestinians to protest their daily nightmare as open air prisoners. We will be at the corner of 17th Avenue and 8th Street SW from 3 -5 pm on Sunday April 8th with signs and candles to honor the lives lost and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians and all groups around the world that condemn the senseless killing and violence that continues against innocent civilians exercising their basic rights.
