Join UW SJP in welcoming the International Solidarity Movement, who are on their North American tour informing Americans about the situation in Palestine.

“In 2002, the International Solidarity Movement grabbed world attention by bringing volunteers from around the world to defend Palestine through nonviolent resistance. They stayed with resistance fighters trapped under siege in the Nativity Church in Bethlehem. They brought medical supplies to the besieged Palestinians in the ancient Nablus Casbah. They documented and filmed the destruction and mass killing of Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp. In 2002 and 2003, thousands participated at their own expense.

One was Rachel Corrie, who was killed trying to prevent demolition of a home in Gaza. Another was Tom Hurndall, killed by a shot to the head. ISM has operated continuously since then, serving at the request of the Palestinian community through participation in Palestinian nonviolent resistance. In 2009, 2012 and 2014, ISM volunteers were with the Palestinian people in Gaza, reporting the Israeli invasion and helping in the hospitals, clinics and schools that were attacked even as they served the refugees.”

The ISM speakers that will be speaking are Joe Catron and Islam Maraqa.

11 April, Antwerp: Protest Action against the massacre in Gaza #AntwerpRaiseYourVoice

On 30 March 2018, the #GreatReturnMarch, a 40-day action leading up to the 70th commemoration of the Nakba, began, with Palestinian refugees claiming their right to return and demanding an end of the illegal siege on Gaza. The Palestinians in Gaza protested peacefully at the “borders” of the Israeli state that prevents their return. The Israeli army responded with immense violence. 17 people were killed and more than 1400 people injured on one day. In the following days, many more people were injured and killed in other actions.

We cannot stand by without showing our solidarity!

In addition to demonstrating solidarity, we also demand
– The end of the occupation and colonization of the Palestinian territories (Resolution 242 United Nations Security Council)
– Recognizing the fundamental rights and full equality of the Palestinian inhabitants of the Israeli territories;
– Respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and possessions (Resolution 194 United Nations General Assembly).

– Het erkennen van de fundamentele rechten en de volledige gelijkwaardigheid van de Palestijnse inwoners van de Israëlische gebieden;
– Het respecteren, beschermen en promoten van de rechten van Palestijnse vluchtelingen om terug te keren naar hun huizen en bezittingen (Resolutie 194 Algemene Vergadering Verenigde Naties).

8 April, NYC: Candlelight vigil for Yassir Murtaja

Sunday, 8 April
7:00 pm
14th St – Union Square
NYC
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/192060031410150/

Yassir Murtaja, 30, had an infectious smile and a heart of gold. He was known to those who knew him as a selfless friend who always put the love for his people and his community first. He was a loving father and husband, a courageous journalist who exposed Israeli crimes and showed the life under Israeli siege and occupation. Yassir was murdered yesterday by Israeli forces while he was reporting on the Great Return March, mass protests that have been taking place in Gaza since March 30th. He was wearing a PRESS vest and helmet when he got shot by snipers.

We call on our friends and community in NYC to come together to stand in reflection and remembrance of Yassir and the 30 other Palestinian martyrs who have been killed by the Israeli oppressors.

We ask that you please bring candles and flowers.

Emergency Rally in Solidarity of Gaza and the Great Return March

(Washington, D.C., April 7, 2018) – On Sunday, April 8th, a grassroots coalition of activists will be holding a rally at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. in solidarity with the people of Gaza to demand:

• Palestinians be allowed to return to their homes peacefully according to UN resolution 194
• Palestinians be allowed to protest and demonstrate peacefully without being attacked
• An end to the siege on Gaza so that Palestinians may live normal lives

WHAT: Emergency Gaza Solidarity Rally
WHEN: Sunday, April 8th, 12noon
WHERE: Embassy of Israel, 3514 International Drive NW, Washington, D.C.
CONTACT: info@ampalestine.org

On March 30, during the Great Return March, the people of Gaza chose to protest for their right to return to their homeland. The Israeli military responded to this courageous action by opening fire against the crowds, killing at least 31 and wounding hundreds.

SEE: Protests in Gaza are leading to many deaths and injuries among Palestinians, yet Israel has faced little criticism
https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/israel-palestine-gaza-march-of-return-protest-deaths-a8292601.html

As the people of Gaza continue to march for their rights and come under fire, we organize in response to the killings to call on the U.S. government and members of Congress to end their silence and demand accountability for Israel’s grievous actions.

Note: This will be a nonviolent action. The organizers do not take accountability for or encourage violence of any kind.

Moved by the Great Return March in Gaza, the Palestinian diaspora in Tampa Bay is steadfast in our right to return to our lands as stipulated by UN Resolution 242. This year marks 70 years of Al Nakba (the catastrophe) that robbed 500,000 Palestinians of our lands and massacred hundreds more, paving the way for a brutal occupation, a racist apartheid system, and a war that dehumanizes our people daily.
