Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association launched a new video highlighting the Palestinian struggle to confront and end the use of administrative detention – imprisonment without charge or trial – by the Israeli state.
The 10-minute short film in Arabic and English highlights several cases, including those of Shaher al-Rai, Hamza Hammad and Mohammed Abu Sakha, and focuses on the psychological impact of administrative detention on Palestinian detainees and their families.
There are over 700 Palestinians held without charge or trial under administrative detention; administrative detention orders are issued for one to six month periods on the basis of secret evidence and are indefinitely renewable. They are issued by the military, or the Defense Minister, and then “rubber-stamped” by a judge.
