ALL OUT IN COMMEMORATION OF THE NAKBA AND THE ONGOING STRUGGLE FOR LIBERATION AND RETURN

Where: Times Square, 42nd St. 7th Avenue
When: May 18, 2018 at 3pm

March 30th, Land Day, marked the first day of the Great March of Return, a 46 day struggle leading up to Nakba Day on May 15th. From now until then and beyond, we in New York and around the globe must support the ongoing struggle in Palestine. As the struggle escalates throughout historic Palestine and the diaspora, join NY4Palestine as we reiterate our commitment to the liberation and the right of return of all of historic Palestine from the strangles of the settler colonial Zionist state of “israel.”

It has been 70 years since nearly 1 million Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes by Zionist forces during the Al-Nakba (Arabic for the Catastrophe) To this day they and their descendants are still barred from returning. Israel has recently escalated its racist and genocidal policies, with the detention and killing of children increasing whilst Al-Quds, the capital of Palestine, is under threat. In reaction to the increase in these policies of ethnic cleansing the resilient Palestinian people, alongside their international allies, are organizing to let the world know that the land, from Haifa to Jerusalem to Gaza and all in between, will be liberated and that a sovereign, independent, free Palestine is inevitable as long as its people remain beacons of resistance.

While we mourn the Nakba, we celebrate the resistance and its steadfast sacrifices in ensuring that the question of Palestine gets an answer. The Zionists did not expect that 70 years later Palestinians would still be fighting for their freedom and dignity. As the fight for liberation continues in the homeland, the fight for liberation continues from inside the belly of the beast. We will be rallying to demand the right of return for ALL Palestinians in the diaspora, to demand Israel keep its hands off al-Quds, to celebrate 70 years of resilience and resistance, and to denounce the settler colonial state of “israel.”

The Nakba did not end in 1948, nor did the resistance.

There is only one solution!
Intifada Revolution!

We don’t want two states!
We want 48!

On Monday, the Israeli army killed 55 Palestinian demonstrators during protests on the fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip. The previous weeks, dozens of Palestinians who participated in the protests in the context of the Great March of Return were slain by the Israeli army.

This is a scandal and typical of the way Israel has treated Palestinians who resist and confront oppression and occupation.

This week, the world commemorated the Palestinians’ Al-Nakba (Catastrophe) of 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their homes and their land by Zionist militias. Their return was denied and their villages razed.

The transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to annexed East Jerusalem is yet another step in a decades-long process of Israeli expansion and – for Israel – a normalization of the occupation.

The West has still failed to act against Israel’s policies. Economically, politically, militarily and culturally (Eurovision), cooperation remains close. The Dutch government even refuses to recall the Israeli ambassador because of the recent massacre.

Therefore, we take to the streets to express solidarity with the Palestinians.

We demand:
– an end to Israeli oppression of Palestinians and the occupation of Palestine!
– recognition of the right of return of Palestinian refugees!
– stop military cooperation with Israel

On May 14, while Israel and the United States celebrated the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem, in Gaza Israeli forces sowed death among hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, including many elderly people, women and children who peacefully protested for the right to return, for the end of the siege and against the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem.

When groups of protesters approached the fence, armed only with kites and tires, Israeli soldiers, artillery and drones also began firing at the crowd that was far from the barrier, killing. 61 Palestinian civilians were killed, including 6 minors and a wheelchair user, over 2,700 injured, including 203 children, 78 women, 8 journalists and 11 paramedics. At least 150 seriously injured, because the Israeli fire was deliberately aimed at the head, neck and chest. (Ministry of Health)

Field hospitals, ambulances, medical and health personnel were deliberately targeted, preventing them from approaching the wounded. The hospitals, already under severe pressure by the siege, by the previous wars and by the wounded of the last weeks, over 8000, are collapsing and are no longer able to cope with new needs.

THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY FOR THESE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY IS THE ZIONIST STATE OF ISRAEL AND THE UNITED STATES, WHICH ARE THE MAIN SPONSORS, BUT ALSOTHE EUROPEAN UNION AND OF EACH OF ITS COUNTRIES THAT CONTINUE TO GUARANTEE ISRAEL’S IMPUNITY.

DAY OF NAKBA AND THE GREAT MARCH OF RETURN

Palestinians will mark the passing of 70 years since the massive forced expulsion of Palestinians from their national homeland.

Of all Zionist war crimes, none was as massive as that committed in the 1948 era with the wholesale expulsion of the Palestinian Arab people from their homes, towns and villages, as part of a calculated plan to uproot an entire population and empty the land of its indigenous inhabitants.

The Nakba (“Catastrophe” in Arabic) of 1948 refers to this planned ethnic cleansing when the vast majority of Palestinians were ruthlessly attacked, massacred and driven from their homes into refugee camps by Zionist terror groups, and denied their right to return in violation of international law. This is the foundation upon which “Israel” was established and upon which its entire existence is built and remains structurally unsteady, morally corrupt, and legally culpable.

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 states, without any ambiguity whatsoever, that “Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive.”

Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Nakba in Palestine
Struggle for the Land 2018
Fighting Racism from Boston to Palestine

This May marks the 70th anniversary of the Nakba (Arabic for “catastrophe”) in Palestine in 1948 when over 935,000 Palestinians (85% of the indigenous population of Palestine at that time) were forced off their land, through massacres or threats of massacres like the massacre at Deir Yassin. Zionism, a European white supremacist ideology, has meant catastrophe for the indigenous people of Palestine, but it has also had far reaching and catastrophic effects on the peoples of Africa, Central and South America, and on black and brown people here in the US. Join us May 20th to commemorate the Nakba and learn more about how zionism impacts Palestinians, the Global South, and people of color here in Boston. Help us build a movement to fight white supremacy from Boston to Palestine.

More than a hundred Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured by Israeli forces since the Right to Return demonstrations began on March 30th. The casualties include children, medics and journalists. No Israeli civilians or soldiers have been injured and Israel’s response, described by Shadow Foreign Sec. Emily Thornberry as brutal, lethal and utterly unjustified, has been condemned around the world.

18 May, Toronto: Emergency Action for Palestine at Chrystia Freeland’s Office

Chrystia Freeland’s Office

We are holding an emergency action outside Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland’s office to urge the Canadian government to condemn Israel’s latest massacre of at least 60 Palestinians and its injury of 2,700 more, including Palestinian-Canadian Dr. Tarek Loubani. We will be providing flags, banners, and leaflets, staging a die-in, and delivering a petition to Minister Freeland’s Office.

Since its founding 70 years ago, Israel has established a brutal apartheid regime, which privileged Jews over non-Jews, as outlined by a recent landmark UN report, (Falk and Tilley 2017). Under this regime, native Palestinians have been denied basic rights, such as their right of return, as stipulated by UN Resolution 194. Since 1967, Israel has also maintained an illegal military occupation over the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

The situation in Gaza has been particularly horrendous. In the last 10 years alone, Israel has murdered and injured thousands of Palestinians by leading three military assaults on Gaza. Most recently, on Monday, May 14, 2018, Israel has murdered at least 60 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded more than 2,700, as Palestinians protested for their right of return. Israel has completely disregarded its responsibility, as an occupying power, for the welfare of Palestinians living in Gaza, as spelled out by the Hague Regulations and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Canadian silence is complicity with Israeli crimes. Canada needs to live up to its obligation as a high signatory under Article 1 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which requires the Convention is upheld in all circumstances. Our domestic legislation, the Special Economic Measures Act, also calls for action when gross and systematic human rights violations have been committed in a foreign state.

Based on international and domestic law, we call on the Canadian government to condemn Israel’s violations of international law, including its illegal occupation, building of illegal settlements, and imposition of a siege on Gaza.

We call on the Canadian government to launch an investigation into the injury of Canadian-Palestinian Dr. Tarek Loubani by the Israeli army.

We demand the Canadian government denounce the opening of any embassies in Jerusalem, as this act is illegal under international law.

We also call on Canada to impose sanctions against Israel, similar to the sanctions that were imposed against apartheid South Africa, until Israel complies with international law. We support Amnesty International’s call for an immediate, global, and comprehensive arms embargo on Israel.

Israel is a terrorist state, which lives on the oppression and exploitation of the Palestinian people. Despite the shameful media silence in Europe, the repression, ethnic cleansing and political imprisonment of Palestinian citizens by the Israelis are unfortunately a constant occurrence.

We can not tolerate that in our city, two days after the umpteenth massacre carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people (Monday 14 May: 61 dead and 2,500 injured in Gaza), the anniversary of the birth of a rogue state is celebrated. Nor at a time when the Palestinian people try to raise their heads and confront their oppressors. In the last few months we have witnessed the “great return march” in which the Palestinians seek to return to the territories that have been occupied

All our solidarity and our support goes to the Palestinian people!
