On Friday, July 22, the Civil Campaign to Support Palestine and the National Cause held an event in Beirut in solidarity with Khalida Jarrar, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council served with a military order of expulsion to Jericho. The event served to launch actions to “defeat the occupation authorities’ order to expel her from her home and support the unity of the Palestinian people in their resistance to the occupation, attended by Lebanese and Palestinian political figures and groups.

Maen Bashour, general coordinator of the Civil Campaign, opened the event, saying that “At a time when Gaza is under assault, facing the martyrdom and wounding of children, women, men and leaders, and in a time when Palestine has lost one of the knights of culture…..the immortal poet Samih al-Qasim, we today gather in solidarity with the struggling Khalida Jarrar, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and one of the leaders of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine…We stand in solidarity with Khalida Jarrar today, and in support of her stance to confront and reject the occupier’s order to expel her from her home, and to work together to defeat this injustice.”

Marwan Abdel Al, member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and leader of its branch in Lebanon, spoke, calling for the broadest campaign “on multiple levels to address the terror and abuse of the occupation which target and punish the free voices and sconscience of the people…Khalida Jarrar is an authentic voice of our national struggle and our identity, who confronted the occupation and shouted that we will not be expelled from our homes, but the occupation must leave our homeland…this action shall not pass.” Abdel Al called on Arab parliamentarians to stand by their colleagues in international actions to stop this policy.

Ahmad Jomaa of Amal Movement, Fathi Abu al-Ardat of Fateh and the PLO factions, Ali Faisal of the Democratic Front, Suhail al-Kassar, Samira Salah, and Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Nimer Zaghmout, among others, spoke at the event in support of Khalida.
