AL NAKBA 70 WINNIPEG: Hope Lives in Remembrance

4:30PM:
Gather at Memorial Park (across from the Manitoba Legislature)

5:00-6:00PM:
Public Awareness Event along Osborne and Broadway (Recognition of Palestinian villages destroyed in 1948)

Al Nakba means “the catastrophe” in Arabic. May 15, 2018 marks 70 years of popular resistance against the 1948 displacement, dispossession, and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homes and lands. 70 years after Al Nakba, Palestinians continue to cherish and work for peace and justice — an end to the Israeli occupation and colonial settlements, the right of return, respect for Arab-Israelis’ rights, demilitarization of the region, and peaceful co-existence.

“[T]he story of 1948… is the simple but horrific story of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine… Retrieving it from oblivion is incumbent upon us… it is…the very first step we must take if we ever want reconciliation to have a chance, and peace to take root, in the torn lands of Palestine and Israel.”
— Ilan Pappe, Israeli Historian, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine
