Events and Actions: Solidarity with the Hares Boys – March 2015

The following call to action is being circulated by the campaign to support the Hares Boys – see the list of events around the world below or the campaign website: https://haresboys.wordpress.com/2013/06/15/latest-news/

Around the world: Join a social media Thunderclap to Free the Hares Boys:  https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/23221-free-hares-boys

This year, Sunday 15th March will mark 2 years since 5 teenage boys from the village of Hares, Palestine, were kidnapped from their homes, abused and violently interrogated, and locked in an Israeli prison. All for something they didn’t do.

It began on 14th March 2013, after a car accident resulting in some serious injuries for its passengers was allegedly caused by Palestinian youths throwing stones at the vehicle; except that there is no evidence to suggest that stone-throwing took place at all.

That same night, Israeli army stormed the villages of Hares and Kifl Hares and detained 19 Palestinian youths. Obtaining their “confessions” through interrogation and ill-treatment, some of these youths were eventually released. Five of them, however, are still incarcerated to this day. These are the Hares Boys.

Should the Israeli military courts get their way, the Hares Boys will face long years in prison for a “crime” that carries no evidence of their supposed guilt and which all the boys deny.

To mark the 2 years since the boys’ incarceration, we are calling on campaigners around the world to devise local actions aimed at raising the profile of the case of the Hares Boys and by doing so, put pressure on the Israeli occupation to respect the principles of justice and release these kids from prison.

We invite you to organise leafleting, vigils and protests, boycott actions, petitioning and letter-writing, talks and film screenings.

The on-going fight against Israeli military aggression and occupation is getting stronger with every new atrocity the apartheid state commits; it matters to vocalise opposition to the continuing injustices the Hares Boys – and, by extension, all Palestinian children in Israeli military prisons – face daily, in order to prevent these dangerous precedents from taking place at all.

Join the fight against oppression. Stand on the side of justice.

International Day of Action for the Hares Boys – Palestinian teenagers imprisoned by Israel.

Organised by Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! (Glasgow) All welcome – open megaphone – Free all Palestinian prisoners / Smash apartheid Israel!

This year, Sunday 15th March will mark 2 years since 5 teenage boys from the village of Hares, Palestine, were kidnapped from their homes, abused and violently interrogated, and locked in an Israeli prison. All for something they didn’t do.

Should the Israeli military courts get their way, the Hares Boys will face long years in prison for a “crime” that carries no evidence of their supposed guilt and which all the boys deny. To mark the 2 years since the boys’ incarceration, an international day of action has been called for 15 March with all progressive people around the world to devise local actions aimed at raising the profile of the case of the Hares Boys and by doing so, put pressure on the Israeli occupation to respect the principles of justice and release these kids from prison.

The fact that it is British based security multinational G4S that provides the guards to imprison and torture these kids means our solidarity is vital. No to Britain’s support for Apartheid Israel!

Join us for an international day of action for The Hares Boys! Bring flags, whistles, banners, placards to help raise attention. Gather outside Marks and Spencer, one of Britain’s biggest corporate sponsors of Israel.

An open megaphone will be there for all to use.

March 14, London: Film Screening – “A Stone’s Throw from Prison”

Palestinian Film Screening: “A Stone’s Throw From Prison”
Saturday, March 14
1:00 pm
P21 Gallery, 21 Chalton Street, Euston, London NW1 1JD, UK
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/775948029139967/

The Middlesex University Global South Solidarity Campaign is organising the showing of a new documentary filmed in Palestine, “A Stone’s Throw from Prison,” in order to raise money for Palestinian charity: Interpal. The film will be followed up by a Q & A with the director/writer of the documentary Raquel Castells who is coming from Spain to speak at the event.

The film focuses on the arrest and imprisonment of Palestinian children and youth. Its description: “Growing up in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is not easy. When you leave home for school, your mother can’t be sure of when you’ll be back. Maybe that night, maybe a year later. A stroll with your friends may end up in a police interrogation station. On any night, a group of soldiers may wake you up in the middle of the night and take you, your brother, your father… to prison, after blinding and handcuffing you in front of your family. You do not need to do anything special, just be there, be a kid. Rami, Ahmed, Mohammed… Three among thousands. The film is their story, but also that of courageous Israelis and Palestinians working to cut abuses, stop conflict and heal its consequences.”

Since its inception in 1994, Interpal has, together with its local partners, supported thousands of Palestinians through projects aimed at alleviating poverty, providing health care, advancing education, and fostering community development. Interpal supports beneficiaries across the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan. The Global South Solidarity Society is a political society set up to fight against Globalisation, Imperialism, neo-Liberalism and to defend human rights.

International support grows for imprisoned Palestinian student Lina Khattab

International support continues to grow for imprisoned Palestinian student Lina Khattab, raising voices around the world for her immediate release. In addition to the solidarity declaration by French student union Solidaires Etudiant.e.s and the new exhibition by Oberlin Students for a Free Palestine, activists in Brussels, New Mexico, and the Union of Communist Students (Étudiants Communistes) in France are calling for Lina’s release.

The Étudiants Communistes issued a statement and call to action in solidarity with Lina, as well as a graphic and petition for French students to declare their solidarity with Lina:

Lina Khattab is a student – but in December 2014, she was imprisoned at the age of 18 after a student demonstration for the freedom of Palestinian political prisoners.

She is imprisoned for her involvement in student organizations at Bir Zeit University. She is also a dancer, and participates in the cultural and political activities of her campus. For that, she was sentenced by a military court to 6 months in prison, three years probation and € 1300 fines. Her sentence is illegal under international law.

Today, every Palestinian student engaging in democratic student organization (unions, blocs), is likely to be arrested by the current government of Israel. Lina is now locked up in a military prison in extremely difficult conditions including humiliation and sexual harassment.

On your campus, mobilizes with the UEC for the release of Lina and Palestinian student political prisoners.

Sign the petition (in French) here: http://www.etudiants-communistes.org/node/12095

In London, Inminds organized a protest on February 27, highlighting Lina’s case as well as that of 15-year-old Palestinian prisoner Khalid al-Sheikh, demanding their freedom in the event held outside the headquarters of security corporation G4S, the subject of a global boycott campaign due to its profiting from contracts to provide security systems to Israeli prisons where Palestinian women, men and child political prisoners are held. Video of the protest here:

Also in London, on March 8, an International Women’s Day protest demanded the freedom of all Palestinian women political prisoners:

March 15, Manchester: Protest in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners

Part of the global day of action to Free the Hares Boys

The Palestinian prisoners organisation Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network has called for an international day of protest to release the Hares boys – 5 teenagers who were captured by Israeli forces near the Palestinian town of Hares on 15 March 2013.

Join us in a street protest in Manchester city centre, linking the struggle for the release of Palestinian prisoners with the growing movement to boycott Israeli apartheid. Britain bears continuing responsibility for the Israeli state’s colonisation of Palestine and says nothing of the 6,000 Palestinian political prisoners locked up by Israel. Many of these prisons are run with the collusion of G4S, a British multinational ‘security’ corporation. Manchester Labour council sees no problem with allowing G4S to run its security operations. We need to break these links.
